Her name is Alice, and she is a Dracaena fragrans Massangeana. Her genus is one used by NASA as a natural air purifier, and will even effectively remove formaldehyde from a room. She is only about three feet tall now, but raised properly she can grow as high as 18 feet ( I doubt I would ever allow her to grow taller than 6-7 feet. She isn't very thirsty, preferring to completely dry out her soil before being watered again, and she likes just enough light that she gets from her eastern exposure window. She is a very pretty girl.

No, not toxic at all. I got her at Molbak's in Woodinville. I have been told by several people that they have the best quality plants, and they also have very helpful staff. I went in, explained that I had never owned a plant in my life, but that I wanted an indoor tree-ish kind of thing to add to my living room. The guy helping me asked some specific questions about the light source and then showed me a variety of plants that would work well and were good starter plants. He also helped me find an appropriate sized pot, and even potted Alice for me before I left. He also gave me an information sheet on Dracaena so I would know how to care for her. I was very impressed.
