On August 13th, Hurricane Charley cut a swath through the state passing on a diagonal from the southwest to the northeast. On September 5th, Hurricane Frances took a leisurely stroll across the state passing on a diagonal from the southeast to the northwest. Now it looks like Hurricane Ivan, currently a Category 5 storm that has devastated Granada, is going to come straight north through the Florida keys on September 12th and pass straight up the middle of the state to arrive in Central Florida on the 13th. As near as I can tell, God is painting a giant Dead Kennedys logo on our state. Who knew the Supreme Being was a fan?
The state has taken fourteen billion dollars in damage so far from hurricanes in the past month (that’s a real number, not me just tossing off a funny huge dollar figure). At this moment the keys are being completely evacuated in preparation for the storm hitting them on Sunday. It’s possible that the storm will weaken some when it hits Cuba, but right now it’s got sustained winds of 160mph.
OK, God. We got the message. We promise not to screw up the elections this year. Can we quit with the hurricanes now?
