So the good news is that during the night Hurricane Frances slowed down and lost some power. The 5am models and the 11am models had it moving farther south, taking us out of the crosshairs but by no means taking us completely out of danger.
The bad news is that the 5pm models put us right back in the crosshairs, and the storm looks like it is going to gain back some strength as it leaves the Bahamas and crosses some nice, warm ocean water. We should start feeling the effects of the storm late tomorrow, and tomorrow night promises to be a long one. Still, the greatest danger is not the winds - it's the flooding that will be caused by having so much rainfall in such a short period of time. Of course all of that could change with the next estimate at 11pm, or with the 5am estimate tomorrow. The folks at the hurricane center are doing the best they can to predict this thing but at a certain point all they can really do is throw up their hands and say, "here's our best guess, but don't bet on it."
It's a beautiful day today, though. Since there was no school today (cancelled due to the impending hurricane), and since my boss told us all to take the rest of the day off, I went with Ben and Sara to the Magic Kingdom for a couple of hours this afternoon. The park was nearly deserted, so there were no lines anywhere. Ben had a good time, spending more time in the park and going to more different areas of the park than he has in a good long time. I think he got overwhelmed with the crowds and the heat this summer (go figure), and he seems pleased that maybe all those dang people have finally left.
