I promised an update about my trip last week, so here goes:

I took Ben home Sunday evening after a normal weekend, and then had to go out shopping. See, I had started to pack my suitcase when I realized that when I threw out several pairs of jeans a month or two ago because of holes in non-trendy places, I had actually thrown out *all* of my jeans. I literally had no long pants to wear, but hadn't noticed because it's been in the 90's here. So I hit up the local Target and not only grabbed a couple of new pairs of blue jeans but also found a nice pair of slacks and a couple of nice shirts. I hadn't been clothes shopping in forever, and I planned on dressing like an actual grown-up for the duration of my Seattle visit.

For the trip on Monday morning I actually dressed up including my suit jacket. I was going to be seeing Kris for the first time in months, and I didn't want her first sight of me to be me looking like some dirtbag slob. The flight was uneventful, and upon arriving in Seattle I went over to my mom's place. Kris met us there, and the three of us went out to dinner. It was a very nice evening.

The rest of the week is pretty much a blur to me. On the work front I had a great week - I laid the groundwork for a major architectural overhaul next year, and just generally got a lot of people fired up about the possibilities ahead of us. One night I even hosted a movie night, and subjected my poor unsuspecting co-workers to Bubba Ho-Tep. It was generally a success, and for the next trip up I plan on doing The Lost Skeleton of Cadavra.

I also got to meet a lot more of Kris' family while I was in town, which was really nice. I met both of her sisters and their respective husbands, and I also met several nephews. One of them scored major points with me by showing up in a Strong Bad t-shirt. I think I scored points with him when the family was grilling me with questions, he asked me "red army or blue army?", and I knew what he was asking about. (Of course, he disagreed with my choice - red army all the way.)

I also got to have dinner with Riff and treeby and some other associated friends from that circle. It's always great to be able to spend time with them. Hopefully one of these days they'll be able to come down for a visit. Another year or so and we'll actually have a house down here, hopefully with a guest room, and I would love to have them use it. Riff *so* has to ride Revenge of the Mummy.

The week went by much too quickly, I didn't get to spend near enough time with Kris, but at least this time it's only going to be a few weeks before I see her again. Ironically enough, it looks like she will be flying down almost a year to the day from when I drove away last summer.

The flight home was just nuts - it took much longer than it should have to turn in my rental car, and my flight was already boarding when I got to the gate. Then at Dallas my plane arrived at one end of the terminal as my connecting flight at the extreme opposite end of the terminal was already boarding. The first flight served a granola bar for the in flight meal. I was sprinting through the terminal to make the second flight and couldn't get anything to eat there. The second flight didn't have a meal, I only got a bag of pretzels. By the time I finally got off the plane in Orlando at 5pm, I was definitely ready for breakfast....

So that was my week in Seattle. It was so much fun, I think I'll do it again in September.
