Last weekend on Sunday afternoon, Ben and I were out for a drive up in Winter Garden. I really like that area, in that it has just about everything I like in a neighborhood. There is a sense of some history, since the town was founded over 100 years ago. The "downtown" area was revitalized in the last few years, such that it is a beautiful cobblestone street with interesting little shops all along the main drag. The community consists of tree-lined streets with nice, friendly sidewalks, and best of all the town sits right on the West Orange Trail (for you Seattleites, it's pretty much like the Burke-Gilman trail -- a wide, paved trail specifically for walkers, joggers, bikers, skaters, and such running through beautiful scenery and nature preserves).
So anyway, we were driving along and I noticed a new housing development that looked interesting, and they had some model homes open. I decided to stop and take a look. I wasn't sure what Ben would think, but I figured he would at least tolerate being dragged in for a few minutes.
Heh.
He absolutely *loved* looking at the houses, going back and forth between them and checking out the different rooms and such. He especially liked the two story houses, with lofts or balconies looking down on the living room areas. We must have spent nearly an hour exploring the three houses, and I pretty much had to drag Ben away when it was time to take him home to Sara's place.
So this weekend we were out and about, and pretty much anyplace I went he made it clear he didn't want to be there. I knew he wanted to go somewhere particular, but he couldn't come up with any words to describe what he wanted. I tried all the familiar places, and none of them were it. At last I remembered how much he liked looking at the houses last week, so I went and found another development. Bingo! He was overjoyed, exploring two new houses in a development just north of Sara's apartment.
So it looks like Ben and I will be doing a lot of looking at houses on the weekends. Cool by me. Kris and I definitely want to buy a house, and although we certainly won't be doing that anytime soon, it can't hurt for me to get some experience in looking at homes and getting a feel for what I like and what I don't. I may have to actually start looking at the paper to find new housing developments to explore.
Speaking of homes, Kris is very happy with what her realtor had to tell her the other day. Based on the realtor's surveys of similar properties, it looks like they are going to be able to list her condo for substantially more than she expected. Of course, what it lists for and what it sells for can be two very different things, but it certainly was a pleasant surprise. It also looks like she doesn't need to do as much work as she feared, for example she doesn't need to repaint. Apparently the market is still moving pretty quickly, too, so hopefully it won't take too long to sell. In any case, realistically she won't be down here until at least the end of March anyway, but it's nice to have good news.
