My hordes of loyal readers (both of you) have been clamoring to find out what happened with that pediatrician. Basically, I got a call from him on Tuesday morning and we talked for about twenty minutes. He seems like a heck of a nice guy, and very knowledgeable. It's really too bad that he is too far away to be possible for Ben to see him (it's a three hour drive to Boca on a good day). Anyway, he said he didn't know any local Orlando pediatricians off the top of his head, but that he would ask his colleagues and get back to me. I still haven't heard from him again, so I will probably give him another call this week.

In the meantime in seemed prudent to go ahead and make an appointment with *someone* locally, just because Ben's fluoxitine prescription was on its last refill. I found a local pediatric clinic on my list of covered providors, gave them a call, and asked if any of the doctors in their clinic had experience with autistic patients. I wasn't looking for a specialist, since this is more for general health checkups and such, but it makes a huge difference to work with someone who is familiar with the territory. They had one doctor who already has several autistic patients, so I made an appointment with him for a general checkup.

As it turns out, the soonest he could see Ben is on January 20th. This is a problem, since his current prescription was going to run out sometime in the first week of January. After a little pondering, I gave a call to Ben's old pediatrician back in Seattle. I explained the situation and asked if it was possible to extend the current prescription by 30 days to cover Ben until he can see the new doctor. They were very nice about it and called our pharmacy right away to extend the prescription. Yay for good doctors!
