Since Kris left last week (last week? Feels like last month!) I have had a terrible time sleeping. I've lived alone for years now and it has never really bothered me, but for the last ten days the apartment has just felt so damn empty. It's one thing to be apart from your girlfriend, and another thing entirely to be apart from your fiance.

Last night, for some reason, I finally got a decent night's sleep. I hibernated for about twelve hours and woke up feeling well-rested for the first time in ages. OI course I've got Ben for the next two nights, so I don't expect to feel well rested for long...

Speaking of Ben, Sara put some long pants on him the other day for the first time since he arrived in Florida back on the first of August. The pants, which fit him perfectly two months ago, are now about two inches too short. He kind of had that Michael Jackson white socks thing going on. No wonder he has had do much trouble sleeping. It hurts to grow that fast. Poor guy.

Here's a story that will curl Riff's toes: I don't know if it made the national news, but last tuesday a 34 year old woman was on the Incredible Hulk coaster at Universal's Islands of Adventure, and when the coaster returned to the loading bay she was unconscious, without a pulse and not breathing. By all accounts she was in good health prior to the ride, and had no history of heart problems. The surveilance cameras showed that she was still conscious at the end of the ride, and must have had a heart attack somewhere between where the coaster reaches the safety stop and when it pulled into the loading bay. The ride was shut down for two full days while independant inspectors went over every inch of track and all of the cars, but in the end they found absolutley nothing mechanically wrong with the ride. The poor woman just had a heart attack. Sadly, she passed away a few days ago at the hospital, without ever regaining consciousness.

I was up at Universal a few nights ago and rode The Incredible Hulk twice, and also did a few go-arounds on each side of the Dueling Dragons. Great coasters, all. Tonight marks the beginning of the Halloween Horror Nights, a special separate admission for most nights between now and Halloween. They have been advertising it like crazy here. Multiple haunted houses, lots of other themed stuff, and all of the rides remain open as well. I'll probably go check it out later in the month. There is also Micky's Not-So-Scary Halloween happening at the Magic Kingdom. We might try taking Ben to that later in the month. Halloween is apparently very big business in these parts...

Sara has still not started at her new job. I'm not sure what is going on with it, and neither was she when I talked to her on Wednesday. Apparently there were actually two positions to be filled, and she took the one where she would have a permanent classroom and be teaching the same lesson plan for five periods per day. The other one would have had her working with honors students and doing American Lit (one of her favorite subjects), but she would have been floating between classrooms and would have had to prepare three different lesson plans. Anyway, I will be curious to talk to her later this afternoon to find out what is going on. She originally expected to have started teaching two or three days ago. She has already signed the contract, completed all the paperwork, and attended the orientation meeting at the distirct headquarters, so I expect it's just a matter of the actual school getting things ready.

And that's about it for today's exciting news.
