So yesterday I received a good-natured prodding that I had not posted anything in my journal for the past two weeks. What can I say, it's been a dull two weeks.

Nope, nothing interesting happened at all.

Huh?

Well, ok.... one or two interesting things happened. Let's see...

The week before last I spent attending the VSLive! conference here in Orlando. Five days of seminars on Visual Studio, C#, ASP.NET, and various other geek stuff. It was a good conference, and I learned quite a bit. Ialso got a free 64mb USB drive, which is way cool, and some very handy new software that will make my PHP development for jamesaxler.com and patpack.org much easier.

On one of the days the afternoon block was all stuff I already knew about, so I took a few hours to hang out just up the street at SeaWorld. I fed the stingrays, pet a few dolphins, and I also did a couple of rides. The Kraken got bonus points right off the bat, because as you enter the loading area for the coaster a large sign points out that rows 5 and 6 of the car are specifically designed to accomodate riders with a larger chest diameter. That was a very welcome change, particularly in comparison to the Testicular Compressor at Cedar Point. The Kraken pulls of seven complete inversions, and at three points the loops actually drop you below ground level; twice passing beneath some structural members, and the third time actually dropping you through a dark underground tunnel. Overall it was a very nice coaster.

I also went on the log flume ride, Journey to Atlantis. This one is actually an odd blend of a log ride and a roller coaster, but I didn't really think it worked well as either. Maybe I just wasn't in the right mood for it, but it just didn't do anything for me. Oh well.

The first half of last week was a pretty mundane work week, just the normal kind of bug fixes and such. Then on Thursday Kris arrived. Would you believe me if I said that I was kinda happy to see her? She spent six full days here, including a normal weekend with Ben. Friday was a particularly hellish night, with Ben simply refusing to go to bed. A battle of wills ensued that led to me unplugging all of the electronics and unscrewing most of the light bulbs in the house. Finally at almost 2:30 Ben fell asleep. I completely lost my patience with him at several points, which probably did not help matters, but to her credit Kris just kinda rode it out and stayed out of the way. Saturday night was much better, with Ben falling asleep before 11pm. All in all it was just kinda a rough weekend for everyone.

During her stay I took Kris to the Magic Kingdom, Epcot, Disney/MGM, the Animal Kingdom, and also showed her some of the non-tourist areas of Orlando. We also visited the Skull Kingdom Haunted Attraction, which actually turned out to be pretty dang good. Apparently from noon to 5pm they run family-friendly tours, and I would be curious to see how they pull that off. I am sure they must raise the light levels quite a bit. That same night we went to see Cabin Fever, which we both liked quite a bit. It has more than a few campy moments, but overall it is a good straightforward fright flick. Most noteably, it is entirely about the human interactions; the flesh-eating virus is really just a catalyst to bring out the very worst in the story's characters. If you haven't seen it yet, it is definitely worth checking out.

It seems like there was something else important that happened this week, but it is slipping my mind right now.

Oh, wait... I remember now. It's just a tiny little thing.

I proposed to Kris on Friday. She accepted.
