It's been a busy couple of days for Benjamin. Yesterday, while Sara was in the shower, he decided to go for a walk. My phone rang at 2:13pm with Sara sobbing in a completely panicked voice, "He got out while I was in the shower, and I can't find him! Please come!!"

She had had a chain lock installed, and her apartment has an intrusion alarm, but neither were enough to deter him. By the time she called me she had already searched all around the immediate area and calling his name with no success. After she hung up with me she flagged down one of the apartment employees who was driving by in one of their golf carts. They went back to Sara's apartment to start the search and to co-ordinate with other workers on the property, only to find Ben standing next to the door waiting patienlty for Sara to come back. Sara, of course, was completely drained by the whole experience.

She has now given a double-cylinder lock to apartment maintenance to install for her, to prevent any further escapes.

She also had a job interview yesterday evening, which she had spent the morning getting herself psyched up for. Despite the afternoon's events, she says the interview seemed to go very well. She'll hear something either way from the school by the end of the week.

Transportation from Ben's new school also called yesterday, letting us know that they would start picking Ben up for school this morning. The poor kid was apparently *not* very happy to be awoken at 7:30 this morning to get ready for school, and he was also pretty apprehensive of getting on the school bus with people he didn't know. His teacher, Mrs. McCauly, was kind enough to call around 10:30 to let us know that Ben was doing just fine at school. He settled right into the routine and recognized the tasks that he was being asked to do. He arrived home this afternoon, and is apparently in a very good mood (if a little tired and shellshocked from the day). Just at the moment he is cacooning in his play room, watching his tapes and eating some fries, and just generally reassuring himself that everything is ok. With any luck he'll fall asleep earlier tonight...
