(reconstructed from memory)

This was really the day I was most dreading, unloading the moving truck. The truck arrived to be sited after noon, and although there were some real questions about whether we would be able to park the trailer somewhere both convenient and legal the driver was a real pro and spotted it in the perfect location. I had unloading help scheduled for 2pm, but they were running late on a job in Celebration with no clear idea of when they would show up.

I dashed across town to pick up my U-Haul and to collect Riff, and we arrived back at Sara's place around 3pm with no sign of the movers. Riff and I decided to start plugging away at it and get as far as we could wtihout the hired muscle. The rain was coming and going, so we took breaks whenever a new downpour started. A few hours ticked by, a few conversations with the guy from the moving company, but still no help. As 7pm came and went, Riff and I were just finishing unloading the last of Sara's stuff. Her breezeway was filled with boxes, but at least all of her stuff was off the truck. Four and a half hours to get it there, and Riff and I were dirty and sweaty, but at least that part was done.

The moving help showed up at 7:30, and it took them less than 20 minutes to transfer all of my belongings from the container to the U-haul. Then they got the rest of Sara's stuff out of the breezeway and into her apartment while one of them assembled her bed for her. The whole crew followed me over to my new apartment, and again in less than twenty minutes all of my belongings were off of the U-haul and into my second floor apartment. I kid you not when I say these guys were ripped like Jesus (thanks to Greg Behrendt for that lovely phrase). In retrospect it was a very nice thing that the movers were 5 1/2 hours late - if they'd been on time I wouldn't have had help gettimg my stuff inside since I only had them for two hours.

As the moving guys drove off, Riff and I elected to both take long hot showers before even thinking about returning the truck. Good thing I have two bathrooms here.

Feeling much cleaner and smelling much nicer, we took off to return the U-haul and to get some dinner. It was a full day and I was glad for it to be over.
