Ben's favorite cartoon of all time is The Sorcerer's Apprentice, and of course he also has a storybook version he loves to read. There is one page in particular that he loves, and looks at constantly. Last year my mom scanned that particular page into a jpeg image and then had that image converted into a counted cross stitch pattern. Once the pattern was ready, John painstakingly went through and matched the thread colors to be exactly the same as the colors in the book. Mom spent months working on the picture, and finished a few weeks ago as a gift to Ben. I noticed that the layout of the image lent itself to a custom matting job in the shape of a sorcerer's hat and set about creating the vector image that could be used by the matte cutting software used by most framing shops, and then took the whole thing in to be framed. Here is the result:

My mom is writing a note to Ben to put on the back of the picture, so that years from now he can look at it and remember his Grandma. *sniff*
