Today, for the first time ever, I played catch with my son.
It sounds like such a trivial thing, looking at it in print, but it's not. For the very first time Ben was actually interested and involved in tossing a ball back and forth with me. He was laughing and smiling, each time I would toss the ball to him and he would catch it. At first he would try to carry the ball back to me, but then he picked up on the idea of actually throwing it back. In the past he has never been interested in any kind of interactive play, something with give and take. It's all been about direct stimulation, completely self-contained. The moment this afternoon when he made eye contact with me and looked for me to be ready when he tossed the ball... damn. I am just so happy right now I could burst.
