A lot of details for the move to Orlando have been locked in over the past few days. Here is the scoop as it stands right now:

Monday, July 21st - this is my last day working out of the Seattle office for Virtuoso. After lunch I will clean out whatever is left in my office, head home, and pick up a U-Haul along the way. Riff's help here would be handy, although it just occurred to me that I need to check with him on this. That evening will be spent loading the U-Haul with all of the belongings I will be taking with me to Orlando, and disposing of anything I am not taking. By then I will have done quite a bit of trimming, so there shouldn't be much left to get rid of.

Tuesday, July 22nd - The commercial trailer is dropped off at Sara's place. I unload all of my belongings from the U-Haul and onto the truck, packing as tightly as possible. My goal is to take up 3 linear feet or less. That sounds pretty aggressive, but bear in mind that the trailer is eight feet wide and nine feet tall. Since I am getting rid of my bulky furnature, and since the remaining furniture items can be broken down flat, I am confident I can hit this goal. Once that is done, I will return the U-Haul and then finish cleaning out my old apartment. If it takes all day that's fine. That night I intend to sleep at my mom's house.

Wednesday, July 23rd - This is Sara's day to load her belongings onto the truck. I will pick up Ben first thing in the morning and spend all day with him, very likely well into the evening. We'll probably spend a fair amount of time at my mom's place. Many tears will be shed. This is breaking my mom's heart, and I wish there was some way I could avoid that. Still, at the end of the day I believe this move is absolutely the best thing to do for Ben in the long run. That doesn't make it any easier, though.

Thursday, July 24th - The trucking company picks up the commercial trailer. Sara and Ben will most likely go out to Camano Island to her parent's place, where they will spend the night. This is my last day locally to tie up any remaining loose ends. Hand in my apartment key, close my local bank account, pick up any last minute items that I will need for the drive. I am guessing I will spend the night at Riff's place, although that is just an assumption - yet another thing I have forgotten to ask him about. Failing that, I'll spend another night with my mom.

Friday, July 25th - Sara, Ben, and Sara's mom fly from Seattle to Orlando, where Sara has reserved two hotel rooms at the All-Star Movies resort. I am very grateful that her mother will be going along, since I know very well how hard it is to travel with Ben. Meanwhile, the cross-country drive begins. I will be driving my car, and Riff will be driving Sara's car. Several months ago Six expressed an interest in coming as well, and I am hoping that is still his intention. There may or may not be a fourth traveller as well, depending on how things shake out. The first day of the drive will take us to Missoula, Montana. - 476 miles

Saturday, July 26th - Drive from Missoula, MT to Miles City, MT. Mental note: take a picture of the bridge in Miles City, the one that washed out when my Mom and Dad made that same drive before I was born. - 487 miles

Sunday, July 27th - Drive from Miles City, MT to Fargo, ND. Make snappy remark about woodchippers. - 465 miles

Monday, July 28th - Drive from Fargo, ND to Madison, WI. Make snappy remark about cheese. 503 miles

Tuesday, July 29th - Drive from Madison, WI to Sandusky, OH. That time of year, Cedar Point is open until 11pm. Get some dinner, then start riding roller coasters. - 445 miles

Wednesday, July 30th - A day of rest. Well, of rest and roller coasters. Ride all day, and into the night. Woo Hoo! Spend second night in Sandusky hotel.

Thursday, July 31st - Drive from Sandusky, OH to Charlotte, NC. This is the longest single driving segment of the entire trip, at 574 miles.

Friday, August 1st - Drive from Charlotte, NC to Orlando, FL. By this point Sara's mom will have left to return home, and we will occupy the second hotel room - 525 miles

Saturday, August 2nd and Sunday, August 3rd - I will sign the lease for my new apartment. The weekend will be spent showing off Walt Disney World to my friends, and giving Sara a break from Ben.

Monday, August 4th and Tuesday, August 5th - With any luck, the uloading of the truck begins today. The trailer itself should arrive in town on the 1st, but may be as late as the 5th. With any luck, we will rapidly get Sara's stuff unloaded into her new apartment, and get my stuff onto another U-Haul to take over to my new place. Depending on stamina, unloading either continues at my place on the same day or possibly on the next. Also on August 4th, probably before the real unloading begins, contact the local school to start the process of getting Ben placed. First contact with the school district should be very quick, and meetings will be scheduled for later in the week.

Wednesday, August 6th and onward - I get settled into my new place, and in particular get my home office up and running. Riff and Six are welcome to stay as long as they like, but I am guessing they will probably fly home before the weekend.

So that's pretty much the whole move in a nutshell. *whew*
