First off, a movie named "Final Destination 2" falls in the same title category as "The Last Don 2", or at least lies in the same bizarro Hollywood logic that allows five movies (and counting) to follow "Friday the 13th: The Final Chapter". Heh. I love America.

This is also a reviewer-proof kind of movie. If you like this kind of movie, you'll like this movie. If you don't, you won't. I like this kind of movie.

The concept behind Final Destination is that somehow Death's plan has been thwarted because an individual has a vision of an impending disaster and avoids it, thus sparing the lives of several people who should have died. Of course, Death will not be made a fool of so each of the survivors dies in a series of freak accidents.

Much like the first one, this movie plays entirely on setting you up for the kill. It is a stalker movie without the stalker. The set piece for the opening of the movie is an absolutely amazing freeway pileup. This sequence alone must have taken more than half of the film's budget, and it's worth every penny. At least until Matrix Reloaded comes out this summer, this scene stands as the most amazing freeway sequence I have ever seen.

From there the action just rolls right along with a wicked sense of humor. The logic is convoluted at best, but I walked away with the impression that in fact Death's plan was never thwarted at all. Everything happens exactly the way Death planned, he just gets bored sometimes and likes to screw with people. Go figure.

Definitely a movie well worth seeing.

I'm still having giggle fits.

I'm trying to tell people at work about the movie, and I can barely speak for laughing.
