I must say, it was a satisfyingly productive weekend.
For some strange reason, most houses around here do not have gutters installed as a matter of course. I suspect it is because the rain here tends to come in very concentrated bursts, and any standing water tends to evaporate within a matter of hours. In any case, with our house we have a real problem with water shedding off the roof along the walkway to our front door and drowning out the planting bed. The spot where it tends to come down is particularly bad since a large amount of the runoff from the second floor roof cascades down onto the garage roof and then funnels out in one spot right in front of our door. On Saturday I installed a gutter along that length of roof, with a downspout placed in a much better location for all the water to run off to. I was surprised at how easy and inexpensive it was. Now we are just waiting for a rainstorm to see if it works properly.
I also made significant progress cleaning up the garage yesterday. I installed hooks in the ceiling to hang our bikes from, and pretty much cleared out the entire floor area. I still have a workbench full of stuff to put away, as well as two large shelf units to organize. I would also like to install some pegboard on one wall in order to organize some of the hand tools, and also put up some hooks on another wall from which to hang rakes and brooms. Still, for the first time in probably a year the garage is clear enough to park two cars in it.
It is currently spring break, and I am off from work for the week (which means I'll only work a couple hours per day *g* ). Right now Ben and I are about to leave for the Magic Kingdom, where a reporter and a photographer from the local paper are meeting us in order to do a story about Ben. Ben was also featured in the newsletter sent out to all Walt Disney World cast members today. So, I guess he is becoming quite the celebrity...
