Production just wrapped in Toronto for the sci-fi channel original movie "Deathlands: Homeward Bound" starring Vincent Spano as Ryan Cawdor and Jenya Lano as Krysty Wroth. I also see J.B. Dix and Jak Lauren in the cast list, but no Doc.. Very odd.

For those who have no idea what I am talking about, Deathlands is a series of books published by Gold Eagle. It is your basic post-apocalyptic story line, with a group of warrior survivalists running around the wasted remains of north America 100 years after a nuclear holocaust. As far as the writing goes, it is about what you would expect from the genre although the series has gotten substantially worse in recent years. Oddly enough, the spin off series "Outlanders" is actually a genuinely well-written and extremely inventive series. In any case, you can read about them all at my web site jamesaxler.com.

The new movie is based on the fifth book of the series, in which Ryan Cawdor returns to his childhood home to face down his traitorous brother. If the character "Doc" is not in the movie, that would indicate that the movie will not be dealing with the secret military redoubts and the mat-trans units that are the backbone of the series. Doc is a man who was time-trawled from the late 19th century into the 20th century, and then eventually pushed forward into the 21st century where he is found by Ryan & company. It is through him that they gain access to the top secret government facilities that give the series its science fiction edge.

No word on when the movie will air, although I suspect it will be after the first of the year. I guess I can expect an increase in traffic to my site around then....
