My single biggest concern about the possibility of moving to Orlando in August is the simple fact that while Sara is looking at getting a job with equal or greater pay (she currently makes less than $20k as a teacher, and that's with a Master's degree), I am looking at taking probably a 40% pay cut. The best way around this would be to convince Virtuoso to let me become a field agent, working remotely from Florida with a little bit of travel to make it work. The idea certainly has merits, but I considered it a long shot. At least I did until this week.
I mentioned to my direct supervisor this week that I had booked my next Disney World vacation for February, and also brought up the possibility of moving there. When I mentioned being interested in working remotely, he was enthusiastically supportive of the idea. It would be very expensive to bring in a new person and get them up to speed (although certainly not impossible), and he feels that I have demonstrated already my ability to work remotely and remain productive. Now that I have David in my camp, the next move is to wait until I get back from vacation in February and then begin lobbying the powers that be with the idea. I think this might actually work...
