So, a few weeks back Ben asked to go to Epcot. He had a great time, except for the part where I took him on the revamped boat ride in Mexico. They have changed it out, and turned it into a ride featuring the Three Caballeros. I thought that since Ben likes watching that video, he might enjoy the ride. Instead, he spent the whole thing more or less in tears, anxious the entire time about being on a boat ride. I was pleased that he had been willing to go on the ride, but disappointed that he didn't enjoy it more.

Yesterday we went to Disney again. Sara was meeting her mother and grandmother there for Mother's Day. Her grandmother lives in South Florida, and they had decided that it would be too crowded on the actual day so they planned it for the week before. Anyway, Ben doesn't get to see his great grandmother very often, so I thought it would be nice for us to meet them there at least briefly so he could spend some time with her.

Ben and I went to the Magic Kingdom first, where he went on Snow White six times as well as Mickey's Philharmagic and the Tomorrowland Transit Authority. Then we took the monorail over to Epcot. At that point Sara and her family were around at the far side of the World Showcase, so Ben and I started walking around. When we got to Mexico, Ben actually took me inside the building there and went right up to the ride entrance. I looked him straight in the eye and told him that we could certainly go on the ride if he wanted to, but that we didn't have to. He thought about it for a second, and then turned around and led me back out of the building. We kept walking around the World Showcase, and he took a side trip into Norway where he checked out the viking boat. He also took me over to where the Maelstrom was (another boat ride, this one complete with trolls), but it is currently closed for rehab. We also went past Germany and encountered Snow White out doing a meet & greet, and so Ben stopped for a minute to flash her his best smile and say "hi".

Finally we caught up to Sara and her family over in Italy, where Ben socialized for a few minutes and gave them all some Mother's Day cards he had picked out. Then he was ready to go. On the way back out of the World Showcase he took me back into the building at Mexico again, and this time insisted on going on the boat ride. Not only was he not upset this time, he was happy and laughing throughout the ride. It was like, now that he knew there weren't going to be any surprises or big splashes he was able to enjoy the videos of the Three Caballeros going on all around. He expecially liked the fiber optic fireworks in the big last scene.

From there he wanted to go see Spaceship Earth. That one is a full twenty minute ride, and as soon as he was done he wanted to go on it again. Actually, he wanted to go on it a third time as well. I wasn't really up for a solid hour of non-stop Spaceship Earth, so I convinced him it was really time to go home and get some dinner.

In other Ben news, thanks to Kris he is now completely free of the pill crusher. Historically we have always had to give him his medication by crushing it up and mixing it in with his juice. He simply was not willing to take a pill. It's been that way for as long as I can remember. He currently gets three pill-based medications over the course of the day, and being mixed into a cup of juice means that he gets them slowly over a period of time while he is drinking it. Last week, Kris was caring for Ben while I was at a parent's meeting at the school. It was getting near his bedtime and she didn't want to have to wait for him to drink a full cup of juice in order for him to get his nightime medicine, so she simply told him to say "ah" and she put the pill on his toungue. He did it without question, took a sip of juice, and that was that. Since then he has been getting all of his meds that way. It seems like such a small thing, but it is a huge step forward.

Kris also has him drinking milk, and this morning she got him to drink orange juice. Simply amazing. Have I mentioned that Kris totally rocks?
