Oh... momma....

Over at deviantART, here is an artists rendition of the fictional "200X Phantasm Cuda". If this car actually existed, I would buy it in a heartbeat. You hear me Mopar? I'm lookin' at you....

I really like what I've seen of most of the retro Muscle Cars, whether concept or in production. I think the designers have done a great job of paying homage to the originals. You can just take a quick look and know exactly what car it is, yet they don't look dated.

That really was a glorious era for cars, back in the late 60's and early 70's. By the time I was old enough to be driving, there wasn't much that compares. I think we've had another renaissance in the past decade or so, with automotive designers and manufacturers being willing to take chances with designs and get away from the purely functional and anonymous sedan look. There are still plenty of fugly cars coming off the production lines, but increasingly we are getting things like the Scions and retro Mini Coopers that are willing to alienate the mainstream while appealing to a target group of consumers. The newer Thunderbird is a real thing of beauty, and there are several others like it out there on the market.

But yeah, someday I want to own a classic '71 Plymouth 'Cuda 440-6 with the shaker hood. I'll never own a Hemi 'Cuda, but that 440 would be just fine. There's just something about that particular front grill, which was only used in the '71 model year, that sings to me.
