After spending most of yesterday walking like an invalid, sometime last night while I was asleep my back dropped back into place. I woke up this morning absolutely pain free and with full strength and flexibility. Oh lord, it feels good to be back.
In other news, Sara finally got a permanent teaching job. As of Monday she is working in the Edmonds school district at their newest high school. In a strange bit of irony, that school is only about three miles from where I used to live. Anyway, it's a .6 position -- which means she only has classes three days a week instead of five. Of course, that also means she only gets paid 60% of the full-time salary. Also, because of the vagaries of how the school pay system works she won't get her first paycheck until the end of November. <sarcasm>I think it's really great how well we treat teachers in our society, and I just can't imagine why so many good teachers are leaving the field for private industry<lt;/sarcasm> The upshot is that Sara will have to keep both of her part-time jobs until December. She'll probably keep working at the Disney store beyond that, just because the employee discount is so good and we definitely have a Disney kid. It also means that I will get to put Ben on the bus three mornings a week, which is just way cool by me. One of my great regrets in life is not being able to keep my marriage together, but I am grateful that I have been able to remain extremely involved in Ben's day-to-day life. Being able to wake him up in the morning and send him off to school, even though it's really only a few minutes a day... well, it just feels good. In a way it's kinda selfish of me to feel that way, but I guess it's ok to be selfish when it has the byproduct of being good for the family, right?
