Ben has been in the hospital now for ten days. He started eating solid food Thursday night, and thus far he has kept it down. The blood tests keep showing improvement, his liver function is normal, and his pancreatic enzymes continue to drop (dropping is good). He needs to stay on the nutrient IV for probably another two weeks, but the doctor is willing to discharge him early next week if we can get a home care nurse for the overnights. It looks like the insurance company will go for that, but staffing is an issue. Most of the people who do overnight home health care do it during the school year so they can be home with their kids after school. In the summer it is apparently very difficult to find someone. Hopefully something will shake out, as Ben is obviously pretty tired of being here.
Not much else to report. We're mostly just hanging out. I expect more visitors today and tomorrow, what with it being the weekend. A couple of folks from his school came on Thursday, and I think his teacher Tim was going to stop by today or tomorrow. If anyone can get Ben to eat more foods, it will be Tim. The man is bloody amazing.
