So, we had a very nice long weekend. On Thanksgiving Kris and I had my mom over for dinner, and we had boundless quantities of food. Enough that there were leftovers to take us all the way through the long weekend. We also went out and saw the new Harry Potter (good movie, and Barty Crouch Jr. is the new Doctor, yay!).
On Saturday Ben and I went adventuring with my mom. We got held up in a rather long traffic jam just in front of our apartments, which turned out to be a very sad story. An older woman collided with a stationary van at a stoplight, spun into a second van, and then rolled. I gather from the way it played out that she meant to slam on her brakes and hit the accelerator instead. Sadly she was not wearing a seatbelt and did not survive. Anyway, once we got past that mess we went out to the Florida mall where my mom completed a fair chunk of her Christmas shopping. Ben was particularly entranced by the new M&M World store (big surprise). After the mall we actually went to Epcot, and Ben generally had a good time. He wasn't exactly bouncing out of the car to run in, but he also wasn't complaining too loudly and never started yelling or hitting and kicking. He seemed to enjoy Spaceship Earth quite a bit, and also liked hanging out at the Mouse Gear store. We made it over to the Canada pavilion briefly, but that was too much for Ben. I suspect the real problem was that we were going around the world showcase counter-clockwise, and in the past he has made it perfectly clear that you are only supposed to walk around it in a clockwise fashion. I spent a fair amount of time on Saturday carrying Ben piggy-back, which came back to haunt me. I believe I am now permanently done doing that.
Sunday featured a visit to the Magic Kingdom, including fifteen laps on SWSA. It was a nice day in the park, and not very crowded.
Monday it was time to pack for my flight to Fort Worth. My back was killing me, so I picked up some analgesics to bring with me and also some of those air-activated heat packs. I wore one most of the day yesterday, and it really seemed to help. The flight to Texas was uneventful, which is the best kind of flight. I made it to my hotel room yesterday evening after dark, so I really didn't get a good look at the surrounding area. My first impression of downtown Fort Worth is that it is pretty much like downtown Orlando. Not particularly large, just a collection of tall-ish buildings grouped around a main street. Certainly nothing like downtown Seattle. I guess I must be a city snob.
So now I am off to go hunt the mighty buffalo. Or at least to find somewhere nearby that serves breakfast. Then it will be time for my very first visit to the corporate headquarters. On my agenda for today: meet with my new team, catch up with Raf and Amelia, attempt to get to know Ronnie a little better, and (most importantly) visits with Pam Lyon (head of HR) and David Hansen (VP in charge of the tech dept., among other things). I have much to discuss with both of them.

Fort Worth eh?
There is a little place just down the street a bit from the office that serves awesome oatmeal and makes the most amazing soup! Yummy.
If you get a chance, go to Pete's Piano Bar around the corner. A friend of mine's brother used to be the manager there and it is a blast. They usually have dancing. (He isn't there anymore as they transferred him to Dallas.)
Enjoy.
