It was fifty years ago today that Walt Disney completely re-imagined the amusement park on a grand scale. Disneyland was not the first "theme park", but it was by far the most ambitious and has easily outlived and outshined any other theme park in the country. And of course, Walt also unwittingly had a huge impact on my own family, some four decades and change later. Disneyland went through a rough patch in the 90's, under management that understood mall-style merchandising far more than they understood theme parks, but by all accounts the past two years under Matt Ouimet have shown a complete 180 for the park. Happy Birthday, Disneyland, and here's lookng forward to the centennial celebration.
