After all the pissing and moaning I have done about work lately, I should follow it up with the good news.  I had been extremely paranoid about my annual review, knowing that it was going to be delivered by a manager who has effectively ignored me since he became my direct supervisor.  I had even begun stocking my arsenal with data to back up my job performance, just in case.  As it turns out, I needn't have worried.  My review was glowing, my merit increase was slightly more than I expected, and it was a very pleasant surprise to receive retroactive pay for the increase going back to the 1st of the year.  So that was nice.

The even better news was that I am going back to my previous maintenance role.  It is only a question of when.  It is very likely that I will be the dev lead on a new project starting shortly, and which will run a few months.  Once that is in the can, I will be blissfully back in the maintenance position where I thrive.  So that was nice, too.

Ronnie has plenty of glowing words to throw around, because they're free. Giving someone a bad perf. review is more effort, so he takes the path of least resistance.

p.s. not to impugn your performance review in any way. You definitely deserved a glowing review and more.
