Last weekend when I was putting Ben to bed on Saturday, I thought he seemed a little warm. Apparently I missed the dramatic thunderclap and portentious organ music in the background.
This past week, which is now bleeding into this current week, has just been neverending. Ben was out sick from school all week with a fever, cough, and general lethargy. I started feeling it on Tuesday, managed to work through Wednesday (if somewhat incoherantly), and finally had to take a sick day on Thursday. Thursday was the one day out of the week that Sara stayed home from work to care for Ben. Thursday also happened to be the day that Kris and I spent pretty much all day in bed together. It was all hot and sweaty; unfortunately it also featured lots of coughing, sniffling, chills, and one of us saying "ow" about every three minutes. So it wasn't exactly a red-letter day.
Friday I managed to work, although being Friday that doesn't mean much when you a)work in the Nimble Methodology, and b)nobody bothers to call you for the show-and-tell meeting, said meeting supposedly being the payoff of the entire work week. I am charitably assuming that the people who spoke to me earlier in the day decided that it would have been a distractiion to have me coughing my lungs up throughout the meeting.
Sara was good enough to keep Ben for the weekend so that I could rest, which seemed eminantly fair to me given that I had spent four days with him during the week. For our part, Kris and I spent the entire weekend either sleeping or coughing. Frequently both at the same time.
Apparently Ben is finally starting to feel better. Sara says he actually had his normal level of energy and engagement today, so it looks like he will be returning to school tomorrow. I am hoping that this means I will be feeling better sometime in the next 48 hours. 'Cause right now? If I have to cough one more time I'm either going to cough up a lung or have an aneurism.
Kris feels great too.
