So much for posting every day. I guess that resolution lasted about a week in a half. I guess I'll have to settle for posting "frequently".
For anyone worried about my mom, she seems to be doing much better. Her blood is still fighting to stay thick; she is taking higher doses of the rat poison but her PT keeps inching back down. (The medication she takes really is the same stuff as rat poison, btw). I'll be testing her again tomorrow morning to see where she is at, and hopefully it will have moved back up a little. The good news is that she has stockpiled enough medical savings to be able to get in to see a local doctor. Basically she just needs to get in for a first visit to be under that doctor's care, and then she'll be able to use that doctors nurse to monitor her medication levels. She'll also be able to get her prescription renewed locally, which will make things much easier.
On the work front: The whole Agile Development thing travels apace. At a meeting today I got to hold someone's feet to the fire about maintenance work, which stands to fall through the cracks the way things are being structured. I think I scored some hits, though, and I have begun to see how I can continue the maintenance work and maybe even get it deployed on a weekly basis. Just a bit more arm twisting.
At a meeting yesterday I was handed the task of figuring out how to break out of our single biggest bottleneck in the code - how to gracefully and gradually migrate out of the old framework and into a new, much more flexible system. It's only the problem that has plagued us for four years now, now big deal. I was asked to call back the dev manager by the end of the day (that being about two hours later) with my ideas. The astounding thing is, I actually think I have figured out how to do it. I got a simple "hello world" application working today, minus the navigation. All the pieces are falling into place, and by the end of tomorrow I'll have a much better idea of whether or not my idea will work *with* the navigation. If I can move seamlessly back and forth between the old and the new, it will be an epic victory. Stay tuned.
On the home front: Have I mentioned lately how much I love Kris? Sure, she's a great cook and that definitely makes me happy. She has made this apartment feel more like a home in the past few months than it did in the first year I lived here. I sleep better at night, just having her next to me. I am healthier than I have been in years. Mostly, I'm just content. Life is good.
