The final driving day began with a call from the phone installer. He told me he was standing on my doorstep, there to install my phone and DSL service. I pointed out to him that A) the appointment was for next Tuesday, B) I hadn't even signed the lease for the apartment yet, and C) in any case I was in North Carolina at the moment. He agreed to return on Tuesday.

After a quick breakfast at IHOP and a quick trip to Kinko's to fax something to Sara's new apartment manager and to hop online, we got the hell out of North Carolina. Being less than ten miles from the state line, it didn't take long. I couldn't tell you much about South Carolina since we pretty much drove straight through it and on into Georgia. We stopped for lunch in Savannah, Georgia, but I suspect we were nowhere near any part of the city that anybody would recognize as Savannah.

Shortly after lunch we crossed the Florida state line, in the home stretch. We hit some serious traffic passing through Jacksonville because of a car-semi collision, and as we continued south along the coast we experienced our first Florida rainstorm. It would not be our last. As a matter of fact, we had to pull over about 20 miles shy of Orlando because a wiper blade on Riff's car was coming loose and he couldn't see clearly in the pouring rain. As we passed the downtown Orlando core we had the special treat of having the sun setting right in front of our eyes, interacting with the wet roadways, and making the road completely disappear. Not a good thing, given the erratic traffic we were in the middle of.

Somehow we survived the sunset, and after over 3,700 miles logged in seven driving days we arrived at Walt Disney World. Once we were checked into our room I went over to see Ben, who got a huge smile on his face when he saw me and then spent the next fifteen minutes avoiding me because he was mad I had disappeared for over a week. It was great to see him.

Back at our hotel room Riff and I were both still wide awake, so I took him over to Downtown Disney. We hung out there for about a half hour and then headed back to the hotel for bed. I slept like a rock.
