Just a quick update on my mom -- there has been no further bleeding since Friday, and yesterday evening she went to see the specialist. It was just a planning meeting, but it went well. They scheduled the actual procedure for March 14th. Five days before that she will have to stop taking the cumadin and switch to a different anticoagulant that isn't as long-lasting (cumadin acts in the blood stream for as long as five days, whereas the medication she will move to only acts for 24 hours). All indications currently are that it is nothing serious, and during the colonoscopy they will probably be able to remove and cauterize whatever they find or failing that they will be able to do a biopsy for further information. Talking to my mom last night she sounded much better than she had a few days ago. She's not worried about the procedure itself (it really is no big deal), but of course we are all worried about having her PT level intentionally dropped so low because of the risk of a clot forming. Still and all, this doesn't seem to be any big deal. I'm sure she'll be fine.
