I fell asleep almost immediately last night, a little before 10pm. Unfortunately, at about 3:30 this morining I woke up and could not get back to sleep. Eventually I gave up trying, read for a while, and then around 6am I took a shower and got dressed. I knew that Sara, Ben and Mandy would sleep until at least 9am so I decided to go take a drive and scout out some of the apartment complexes I had found online. My first stop, however, was to get breakfast at the local IHOP. It hadn't occurred to me that when I ordered orange juice I would be getting fresh squeezed Florida orange juice. I'm here to tell you, the northwest just doesn't hold a candle in this department. Best orange juice I have ever had.
After breakfast I scouted out the location of the apartments that were nearby, and since the rental office would not be open for over an hour I decided to scout out the others as well. I found them without much difficulty at all, and I am glad I drove out there. It wasn't exactly a nice neighborhood. The apartment complex itself seemed nice enough and well maintained, but the surrounding area was just not the kind of neighborhood I would want to live in. Kind of like the Delridge area of Seattle. So I crossed those ones off my list, and headed back towards the first ones. I drove down International Blvd which is, as you can imagine, your archetypal tacky tourist strip. I drove by Universal Studios and Wild Waves, which both looked decent. I also drove by the "Skull Kingdom Haunted Attraction", "Race World", "The Titanic Experience", and a host of other "attractions" that ranged from tacky all the way down to god-awful. I did eventually stop at a grocery store, and picked up a decent map of the area. Back at my first choice apartments I was dealt a crushing blow -- they are income-restricted apartments, and I make about three times the upper income limit to be able to live there. Scratch that one off the list as well. I tried to find a copy of For Rent magazine, but didn't have any luck.
By this point it was after 9am and I figured I should get back before the others started getting impatient. Silly me. It is currently 10:10am, and as near as I can tell the three of them are still asleep. I think I'll go take a nap now.
