Friday: spent the afternoon with Ben, spent the rest of the night with Kris. Couldn't think of a more ideal way to spend a day. Unfortunately, Friday night I suffered from a severe case of insomnia. I probably only got about an hour of sleep - maybe less.
Saturday: Watched Ben for most of the day, picked him up around 11am and returned him to Sara at around 8:30pm. By the evening I was dragging hard, and I was sound asleep within 30 minutes of Ben leaving. Earlier in the day we went over to my mom's place, and I had a good conversation with her and John. John continues his job search, and is looking for pretty much anything he is even vaguely qualified for. If it's a computer job, great. If it's not a computer job, great. Mostly it just needs to be a job. He is also working the system for any kind of assistance they can get. They have been approved for a grant that will pay the electric bill, and there are other grants and programs he is pursuing as well. In a general sense, John seems to be much more focused and motivated than I have seen him in a long time. I am sure it is a combination of better sleep with the CPAP and good work with his therapist and the related meds. Good for him. He is still getting unemployment benefits, and will for at least a few more months. As long as that is coming in it doesn't make any sense for him to take a minimum wage job flipping burgers and the like. I am satisfied that he is doing what he needs to do and is making good decisions. That's a real relief. As for my mom, she seems to be doing generally better. Unfortunately, due to cutbacks at her health carrier her doctor is being laid off. This means she will probably need to start over getting a new doctor up to speed with her condition, which is a bit scary. Still, that can lead to a blessing in disguise. They are seriously looking at moving to California to be nearer to John's family. They would never consider such a move if it weren't for the fact that Ben and I will be moving to Orlando anyway. Without us to keep her anchored here, my mom finds it much easier to leave. She'd miss Cori and the kids, but it's not quite the same. I think if they can find a place somewhere near Rio Vista (in the Sacramento valley) it would be a good thing. She's going to need a new doctor anyway, John can't possibly have any more trouble finding a job there than he has here, and being near John's family will be good. I hope it works out that way.
Sunday: A rare day without work and without Ben. I slept in, and then I spent the afternoon doing laundry and cleaning house. In the evening Kris came over and we went out for some dinner, then came home and watched the Golden Globes. Speaking of which, what in the hell was Lara Flynn Boyle thinking? Did she not have a mirror? Did she not have any friends who could take her aside and lovingly explain to her that she is not Ballerina Barbie, and that she just looked rediculous? I mean hey, I ain't no fashion genius but even *I* know how hideous that pink tutu was. Absolutely terrifying.
