So here's an interesting bit of trivia: all of my life I never thought I snored, right up until the point that I got married and was informed otherwise.

So for the past few years I have known intellectually that I snore, but really how bad can it be? I mean, it doesn't wake me up, so how loud could it possibly be? Apparently loud enough that I kept Kris up all night last week. So I went to the doctor (I had other things to discuss anyway), and brought up the snoring thing, and was referred to the hospital for a sleep study, which I did last night.

I arrived at 9pm to do paperwork, and the technician then spent what seemed like a solid half hour wiring me up. I had EKG leads glued to my scalp with what felt like extra thick petroleum jelly. I had leads stuck to both temples to track my eye movement. I had a microphone taped to my neck. I had more leads on my face, back, chest, and legs. I had two different straps around my chest and abdomen. And then I was supposed to sleep.

What I recall of the night was that I laid there and never really went to sleep. Every five or ten minutes the tech would come into the room to adjust a wire or something. Finally after about two hours the tech came in and told me it was time to get up.

What really happened was that although I was restless, I did actually sleep. It was nearly 6am (eight hours after lying down to go to sleep) that the tech woke me. On a scale of one to ten, she said the volume of my snoring was a ten. On the other hand, she never hooked me up to the CPAP during the night - she had warned me the night before that if I had severe sleep apnea she would hook me up to the CPAP about two hours into the night.

She was not able to give me any details beyond that, she said my doctor would contact me with the results. I have no idea what the next step is. But hey, I'm on vacation this week, so that's pretty cool.
