Mom had two doctor's appointments this morning.

The first was with the surgeon, and lasted all of five minutes. He came in, examined the scars, removed the staples, and said everything was healing very well. He is a great guy, and I can highly recommend Dr. Hagen if you ever happen to find yourself in Ocoee, Florida in need of abdominal surgery.

Since the first appointment went so quickly, we took advantage of the time to go grocery shopping and mom stocked up on supplies. Then she went home for the first time in nearly a month and I got all of her groceries put away and made sure the house was in order.

Her second appointment was with her primary doctor, and it also went very well. He was pleased with how she is healing, and said the scars look good. We talked to him about the blood testing issue (PartnerCare is refusing to cover the test strips), and actually arrived at a very happy conclusion: although PartnerCare will not cover those test strips they *will* cover a home health nurse to come out twice a week and do the blood draw and submit the tests stat. We will be arranging to have Ida, the nurse who has been seeing my mom every day for the past week and a half, to continue to come see her twice a week for the foreseeable future. Ida is a fantastic nurse, my mom really likes her, and I will feel just generally better knowing that she will be seeing my mom a couple of times per week. In addition to the blood draw, she can make sure my mom has all of her meds set out for the week, take her blood pressure, and just generally check up on her. Personally, I don't feel any kind of imposition on my time for taking care of my mom, but I know she will feel better if she doesn't have to rely on my quite as much.

She is pretty wiped out for the day, having done all of that walking and shopping and such for the first half of the day, but she is now back in her own home resting comfortably. She has her cat and her fish, she has her neighbors stopping by to visit, and she is online with her computer to chat with her friends. I will check in on her again later today, but honestly she just seems so much better than she did a month ago. It is really nice to see her looking and feeling so well. She still has a couple of months of healing to do internally, but she already feels better than she has in months.
