How was my trip? Great. I did work stuff, I still have a job, and I got to hang out with friends in the evening. Thanks for asking!
So, I spent a couple hours last night trying to get Kris' computer connected to the wireless network here in the home office. While I was out of town, she used my computer because hers just plain couldn't connect to the internet. I could see the list of available networks, picked ours, and it would sit there trying to acquire a network address for a minute or so and then give up. I thought maybe I had the security key wrong, so I turned off security on the router briefly - no joy. I rebooted the router - no joy. I uninstalled and reinstalled the drivers - no joy. You know what it turned out to be? One of my neighbors just added a wireless network and put it on the same channel as mine. As soon as I bumped my router to use a channel as far away as possible from all other local networks, she was able to connect just fine. Why the heck did it take me two hours of fiddling to figure that out? Sheesh.
