My new skates arrived yesterday, and with only 23 days remaining until the marathon I gave them their first real workout this morning. The larger wheel size definitely made a difference, but that was more or less negated by the process of getting comfortable with the new boot design. It has a much lower cuff so that I have less ankle support, but it fits much better around my foot so I have more solid support there. It actually forced me to modify my stance slightly, which is a good thing, but it will take some time to get used to. The boots are designed to be able to use heat molding in order to custom form them to your foot, and I will hopefully be attempting that in the next week or two. Theoretically I can get the boot to fit as well as my old army boots did, and that will be nice.
Another bonus: with the time change this weekend we will finally have enough daylight hours in the evening such that Kris and I can get back out together again. I really miss doing that, and I am also hoping that next weekend when we don't have Ben that we can get out during the day for a ride. I would be curious to go find the northern trail head for the Van Fleet trail and go south.
