SAN DIEGO -- Several lanes of northbound Interstate 5 were blocked Wednesday morning when a tractor trailer loaded with bananas overturned.

According to investigators, the driver of the truck was traveling at about 57 mph when he was distracted while he was looking at his paperwork. His truck swerved out of control, hit the right shoulder guard rail and jacknifed.

The accident happened at about 5:20 a.m. on a stretch of the freeway that runs through Camp Pendleton, . All 48,000 pounds of bananas remained inside the trailer, and no one was injured in the crash.

It took authorities six hours to empty the bananas from the trailer and remove the truck from the roadway. By 11:30 a.m., all lanes of the freeway had reopened.
