It's a quarter after eight in the evening. A little less than six hours ago I got in the car with Kris to take her to the airport. About five hours ago we arrived at the terminal and we said goodbye. About three hours ago she called me from the plane on her new cell phone to say goodbye again.

I spent at least two hours just kinda sitting here in the dark and the quiet.

In the immortal words of Bill Withers from his song "Ain't No Sunshine" -

I know, I know, I know, I know,
I know, I know, I know, I know,
I know, know, know, know, know,
I know, I know

Hang on, wrong verse... here it is --

Ain't no sunshine when she's gone
And this house just ain't no home
Anytime she goes away

She's only been gone a few hours and I miss her like crazy. I have no idea when we will see each other again. She needs to sell her condo, and really can't leave until that is a done deal. She definitely won't be here until after the first of the year, and January doesn't look good. End of January? Sometime in February? Here for Valentine's Day? I don't know. I know I'll talk to her pretty much every day between now and then.

Yesterday we had a fantastic day. I took my last vacation hours from work, and we spent one last full day together. I had to run two quick errands first thing in the morning, then we got some lunch. From there we stopped into an AT&T Wireless store and got a new cell phone for Kris. The phone was free, adding her to my existing plan only cost ten bucks, my monthly calling plan did not change, and on top of the regular calling features we also get 1000 free mobile-to-mobile minutes each month. That's almost seventeen hours we can talk to each other each month for free. That's a start, anyway. After that we spent a few hours in the Magic Kingdom over on the side of the park that Ben never goes to and which by extension I almost never go to. We walked through the Swiss Family Robinson Treehouse. We went on Pirates of the Carribbean. We rode Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, which had just finally reopened this past Wednesday (having been closed first for routine maintenance and then remained closed pending the results of the Disneyland BTMRR accident investigation). We rode Splash Mountain. Then we headed over to Disney/MGM. We did both the Rock 'n Roller Coaster and the Tower of Terror. We saw the Indiana Jones stunt show. We saw Fantasmic. After that we went over to Downtown Disney for a while and just kinda walked around. In print on the screen, all of that looks like pretty routine touristy kind of stuff, but really it was a great day.

But today she is gone, somewhere in the air over the middle of the country right now.
