In the immortal words of Groucho Marx, "Time flies like an arrow; fruit flies like a bananna."
Time has been screaming by, and about the only saving grace is that I saw Kris for six consecutive days this past week. On Thursday I even went up to Marysville to have dinner at her Mom's house. Overall it went well, although her mom thinks I don't eat enough. She was very nice, though. I think she and my mom would get along well -- they both have a penchant for kitshy things that make noise.
Speaking of my mom, her PT level went up to 12 yesterday. (PT level measures the number of seconds it takes a particular volume of blood to coagulate through a particular diameter channel at a particular pressure. Normal is between 4.5 and 5.5. Anything over 10 is *extremely* dangerous.) She was given a dose of vitamin K, and sounded better later in the afternoon. With any luck she slept for the rest of the day. I expect today she will have to go in for a cortazone injection for a headache, since that's usually the next thing in the progression. I try not to worry too much since there is really nothing I can do about it anyway. But of course she is my mom, so there you have it.
John has gone from part time to full time working at a local car wash. Certainly not a dream job, or even a job with benefits, but at least it is a full time job that brings in more money than unemployment and either resets the unemployment clock or at least preserves whatever dollars are left to be paid out there.
As for me, I spent the week wrapping up some outstanding bugs at work and basically clearing the decks so that I can be gone for three weeks without disrupting things too much for the rest of the development team. Yesterday they threw me a kind-of going away party, I guess a going-away-from-this-office party. There was much pizza, a very nice cake, and speeches from several people including the CEO. It is very flattering to be so well-respected by my peers, and I will be forever grateful that they have been willing to let me try this thing. From the very beginning when I floated this idea, everybody has been nothing but supportive.
So here we are, one more day before I really go to town and pack up the last of my belongings. At this point really all that is left is the kitchen, bathroom, the electronics, and some random books and knick-knacks. With any luck by the end of tomorrow everything will be boxed up and ready to go. Monday I will go to work for at least a half day, and then pick up the U-Haul and get it loaded in the evening.
Sara's car, which I am driving cross-country, was in the shop all day yesterday getting $500 worth of work. No significant problems, just a complete tune-up with new plugs and points, a radiator flush, new filters, a couple of replacement lamps, and the such. I feel much better knowing it has had a thorough going-over just prior to the drive, and I don't expect any problems along the way. My car, of course, had its major service about a month ago and I will swing it through for a lube-oil-filter sometime on Wednesday.
Given that I am tearing down and packing my computer tomorrow afternoon, I am not sure when my next journal entry will apear. I intend to journal heavily throughout the cross-country drive and the move into my new place, it just all depends on when and where I find web access along the way. Stay tuned....
