Earlier this afternoon my mom tripped on something in the hallway and fell. The good news is she didn't suffer any life-threatening injury or broken bones, but whatever it was she tripped over cut deeply into her big toe. From looking at it immediately after the fall, it was obvious to me that it was cut almost, if not all the way, down to the bone right across the knuckle. Some emergency medics came out to examine her and wrapped it up in gauze, and then John took her down to urgent care where she was definitely going to need stitches. The latest news now is that she may have actually cut a tendon, so they are sending her over to Virginia Mason to see a specialist. At the moment she is doing much better, since they have numbed the area.
The good news is that she didn't tear the ligament in her toe, but the bad news is the ligament was pulled off of the bone. The doctor pinned it back to the bone in surgery, stitched her up, and put her in a walking cast. She is staying the night in the hospital, just because it was so late in the day when the surgery was done and they didn't want to send her home without a little more observation. Not sure how long the cast will stay on, but I would supect a few weeks at least.
