I realized today that if I wanted to have a vote in this fall's elections, I had better get my butt down to the King County administration building and register as a Seattle voter. Today was the final deadline to be able to register in person and still be able to cast a vote, so on my lunch break I headed on over to 4th avenue and filled out my voter registration form. I was kind of surprised at the complete lack of verification required on my part. I mean, on the one hand I am glad that getting registered is a fairly simple process since I believe that we as a society are better off the more people who actually vote. On the other hand, there was no requirement that I prove my identity in any way or that I actually reside at the address given. If voter apathy wasn't so high I would be truly concerned about the potential for fraud...
