Slept in. Found it odd that it took three days into a vacation before I was able to go to bed without setting an alarm.

Spent most of the day with Ben. He started a new medication on Sunday night, and apparently spent most of Monday asleep. He would wake up long enough to wolf down a plate of food and then crawl back into bed. After conferring with the doctor, Sara scaled back the dosage and Tuesday was a little less sleep intensive. The good news is his appetite has improved dramatically. He has become borderline malnourished, and the whole point of this medication was to get him to eat. Looks like it is working for the most part.

We went by his school to visit his teacher, who was very excited to see him. Ben was also happy to be back in his regular classroom. Next Wednesday can't come soon enough as far as he is concerned.

From there we went to visit my mom, and then back to my place for the rest of the day. Took him home in the evening and then came home and did nothing. Nothing at all.

Heaven.

Last night as I was just getting comfy in bed and drifting off to sleep, I realized that I had forgotten to brush, floss, and use the fluoride rinse. I laid there for a minute and thought to myself that missing one night wouldn't kill me, and I would do it in the morning. Then I mentally slapped myself for falling back into old habits after less than 48 hours. I peeled myself out of bed and took care of my gums, on the premise that I am just way too young to have my teeth fall out just because my bed was comfy.

Got up this morning and brushed and flossed again. Did the rest of my morning routine, and then went to pick up Sol to go climb the Pinnacle at REI. Sol climbed a 5.9 route (climbs are rated on a standard scale, although it is fairly subjective - beginners tend to climb around a 5.5 or 5.6, and a 5.11 is insanely difficult). He had some trouble in two particular spots, but worked his way through them and made it to the top of the Pinnacle, 65 feet up. Then it was my turn. I attempted a 5.7, and it kicked my ass. The first 20 feet of the climb had a negative incline (meaning the rock face leans in towards you instead of away from you), and I always have a terrible time with those. I only made it a third of the way up and finally had to give up. I was thoroughly embarrassed and felt like a complete loser.

Not one to remain beat, we are going back tomorrow and I will climb a 5.6 route instead.

During the afternoon I did a bit of reading, and a bit of housework. Then in the evening [livejournal.com profile] retcon and [livejournal.com profile] treebyleaf came over for dinner and a movie. We watched the new movie I picked up in Canada on Tuesday, and it was pretty damn good. If you are in Canada and have the chance to see The Hole, I highly recommend it. If you are here in the states, the best I can say is make friends with a canuck.

That's about it for today. I am going to go brush, floss, and use a fluoride rinse now. G'nite.
