First things first: both
retcon and Sol are my heroes, having saved my butt from my own poor planning. Riff worked his tail off Sunday ngiht helping me get the truck loaded (and he has the bruises to show it). Sol displayed amazing stamina on Monday helping me unload the truck in the new apartment, although we were both pretty much dogging it by the end of the afternoon.
At this point I am about a day behind where I wanted to be. There is another one or two carloads of stuff at my old place, and it still requires several hours of cleaning before I can hand over the keys. I am not going to bother steam cleaning the carpet because it is going to need to be replaced anyway. I was in the apartment for over three years, and it was not a new carpet when I moved in, so it is due anyway. It looks like I will be able to skate from work early today to carry on with the cleaning.
As for the new place, pretty much nothing is unpacked or positioned yet. The bathroom is totally done, because I had to be able to get ready for work this morning.
During the truck loading, we tossed my old mattress and box spring because they were beyond the pale. During the day yesterday I made a trip to Ikea for a new mattress and bed frame, and I also picked up a waterproof cover to put on the mattress beneath the mattress pad to spare the new one the same fate that befell the old one.
Unfortunately, I couldn't go to bed until I had a bed to sleep on... and I wasn't able to start putting my bed together until about 10:30 last night. Finally at 1am my new bed was assembled and I was able to make up the bed and lie down. I think I was asleep before I was technically completely horizontal. Spike cuddled under the blanket and slept the whole night with me, and morning came much too soon.
Of course, one of the huge selling points of my new place is that it puts me substantially closer to work, thus affording me more sleep in the morning. I clocked it this morning, and it took me 15 minutes to get to work with a distance of just over ten miles. Yay!
Both the cable and broadband installers are coming tomorrow morning, so among other things tonight I have to at least clear a path to where the cable outlet is and have my tv and cable box accessible. At the rate I am going, I don't expect to formally hook up my electronics or computer until Wednesday night. *sigh*
Oh. And my body hurts. Everywhere. I feel like I ran the triathelon yesterday, and every muscle in my body is letting me know just how out of shape I am. It hurts? Yes. It hurts.
I have seen most of my neighbors, and I am pleased. Beneath me is a family with a boy a little younger than ben. On the other side on the lower level is a family with two kids probably 4ish and 6ish. Upstairs on the other side is a family with a teenager. They all seem like very nice people, and this neighborhood is striking me as a huge step up from where I was living before. I am very happy.
