HBO hears word, brings 'Preacher' to small screen
I can't imagine any way that this is not going to suck. Sure, it's HBO, they can get away with the extreme violence that was the hallmark of the series. But can they really get away with the outright blasphemy? This is basically a story that depicts God as the ultimate narcissistic bastard, features coke-head angels, has one recurring character who commits serial bestiality against any creature within his reach, and includes several "religious" characters whose hedonism knows no bounds. I just don't see any way a television series, even on pay cable, can come anywhere close to capturing the attitude of the comic book. I mean seriously, at one point James Marsden (Cyclops from the X-Men movies) was going to play Jesse Custer. How awful is that?

Honestly, I am much more looking forward to the Southern Vampire series in production now at Showtime based on the Charlaine Harris books.
