What a day

I had a million things to get done today, and only got to about a dozen of them.  I scrambled all day long to get my code to a place where I could deploy it to test and give QA something to work with tomorrow while I was in transit.  CodeSmith fought with me all the way, and one of the things on my to-do list for Thursday is to write a HowTo document on running CodeSmith against the Event Management project.  Yay.

It was at the end of the working day when things really came unglued.  Just as I was gathering up my things to leave and take the dog to be boarded for the week, I got an email from work.  Due to budgetary issues, the trip to Seattle for remote and Ft. Worth staff had been cancelled.  Now, if it was just me going on a trip I would shrug my shoulders and march on.  But Kris is coming along, we had extended the trip so that we could spend extra time with friends and family, and in any event Kris' plane ticket was non-refundable.  I got on the phone with the head of technology, explained the situation, and flat out said that I was getting on a plane tomorrow and that was non-negotiable.  The only thing we had to work out was whether or not I needed to compensate the company for my plane ticket.  We spoke for about five minutes and ironed it all out.  In the interests of confidentiality I won't go into details in a public forum, I'll just say that we arrived at a mutually acceptable solution.  So, crisis averted.

About an hour later my phone rang, and it was the airline calling to tell my my flight tomorrow had been cancelled.  Not my ticket, the entire flight.  I had to reschedule, so now Kris and I are leaving an hour later in the morning.  Which is actually kind of nice.  But it is starting to make me wonder whether or not the universe is trying to prevent this trip.

In any case, tomorrow morning Kris and I are headed for Seattle.  We are both looking forward to seeing everyone, and especially to Saturday when we are renting a car and taking a day trip up to Deception Pass.  We both miss the Northwest something fierce, and there is just something about the Deception Pass bridge.

For those of our friends up north, we are looking forward to seeing you very soon.

Which reminds me -- your visit seems to have kind of snuck up on me, but -- do you have a free evening while you're here, still? Or a free couple of hours? There are a couple of episodes of Masters of Horror I desperately want you to see, if you haven't already,

The only episode of Masters of Horror I have managed to see thus far is the one where soldiers all come back to life, and then demand the right to vote (and they ain't voting Republican).

There has been a weird last minute shuffle with work, so I'm not sure if I have the free time or not. We would definitely love to see you, though. And I'd like to pick your brain about some graphics for a complete redesign of my website.
