After going down yesterday, Ben's pancreatic enzymes went up again today. At this point the doctor is still unsure what is causing the pancreatitis. One possible explanation is an autoimmune deficiency, which would be treated with steroids. Ben got his first steroid dosage a few hours ago, and we'll see what effect that has on his blood tests. Another possible explanation is a pancreatic cyst. Ben is scheduled for another CT scan tomorrow to see if that is the problem. If both of those fail to yield results, the next step is a test called an ERCP (Endoscopic Retrograde Cholangiopancreatography). This is something which nobody in Orlando is equipped to do, so Ben would need to be flown to Gainesville to have the test done. This makes me a wee bit apprehensive.
