I had the oddest experience tonight, although I suspect that it is the kind of thing that normal people with normal social skills have happen to them all the time...

I went to Red Robin for dinner tonight, and since it was crowded and I was alone I just went into the bar and sat at the counter. After ordering I was just sitting quietly reading my book, when two guys sat down next to me. The one who sat directly next to me looked over, saw what I was reading, and made some sort of joke about reading a book called "Deathlands". Nothing nasty or derogatory, just the kind of sarcastic ribbing that you would expect from a friend. He asked what the book was about, I described the series to him, and then I went back to eating. Over the course of the next few minutes he made a few more jokes, and somehow we wound up talking about web development. I am not exactly sure how that happened, but I think it was exactly the kind of thing that social people do all the time. I felt like I was adrift in uncharted territory but I figured what the hell, go with it.

When my check came, he insisted on paying for it ( to apologize for making fun of my book ) and he also gave me his name and phone number, and took mine as well. Turns out he runs about 25 web sites but it takes up too much of his time and he would like to farm some of it out. I think this is that "networking" thing I keep hearing about.

Anyway, who knows -- James Axler may generate some cash for me after all...
