You know, it's really been a pretty dang good week so far.
Monday
Monday morning my mom watched Ben for a couple of hours while Kris and I went out to the Van Fleet trail. It was the first time Kris had been there, and was also the first chance she has had to go out on her bike since we got it tuned up a few weeks ago. She biked, I skated, and we had a grand time. We saw lots of butterflies and dragonflies, quite a few turtles both small and large, an armadillo, several squirrels, and heard some gators grunting and splashing although we never actually saw them. Most of all it was just nice to be out enjoying the day together.
For the afternoon, once we dropped Ben back off with Sara we went over to the mall to do some clothes shopping for the wedding and honeymoon. I found exactly the shirt I was imagining (a great black & white cuban-style deal, working on the "What would Charlie Sheen wear?" premise), and also picked up a couple of other great shirts on clearance plus several new pairs of shorts to fit my shrinking waistline. Kris dropped her ring off to be sized down a little more (it slips off when she washes her hands, which she does dozens of times per day at work), and also wound up buying several very nice dresses. In the evening we skipped the whole fireworks thing, since neither of us felt much like wading through the crowds inside the parks. We just had a nice, quiet evening and even went swimming for a bit before bedtime.
Tuesday
Tuesday morning I had a general physical checkup. I did it partially because it had been five years since I'd had one, but mostly because I wanted to be sure I am on the right track with my current workout program. The checkup was very good, it looks like I'll survive at least another year. I also got Kris and I registered with Amazon for our wedding, so if y'all want to send us wedding gifts you can find us there. You can find it anytime by searching for our names at www.amazon.com/wedding, or you can access it directly with this link: http://www.amazon.com/gp/registry/2SIYSTBQ0HK6D . I'm not begging for gifts here, but if you are so inclined then feel free.
Wednesday
Wednesday I got my mom set up with a new doctor down here, the same one who gave me my physical. While discussing my family history I had been very surprised when the doctor recognized my mom's condition (anticardiolipin syndrome), and I thought she was the kind of doctor that would do well with my mom. So I took my mom in to see her and it went very well. I have a good feeling about this one, I think this will be a good doctor for her in the long term.
After wrapping that up, taking my mom home, and dropping off a prescription to be filled, I set off for the Osceola County Courthouse, located in beautiful downtown Kissimmee. Kris met me there, and we actually got our marriage license. It's really, really happening. We have the paperwork and everything. While we were at the courthouse we saw another young couple get married, and also saw yet another young couple who seemd absolutely clueless about the entire experience and had a great deal of difficulty answering the questions and filling out the paperwork. Neither of them had photo ID, and they were both surprised they needed it. I wish them the best of luck in life, they're going to need it.
From there Kris and I found some cards and envelopes we liked for our wedding announcements. I came up with a great idea for the design over the weekend, and in the next day or so we will get the design finalized and printed up. We intend to mail out the announcements the weekend of the wedding. If you are wanting one and think you might not already be on our mailing list, by all means let me know.
We also picked up a bike rack that is really pretty cool. It holds two bikes, is easy to install and remove, and will fit both on her car and mine. We are both very much looking forward to going biking/skating together much more frequently in the future.
Thursday
This morning before work I had a full fitness evaluation, done in the same office where I got my physical on Tuesday. The results:
My resting heart rate is excellent, and my recovery rate following exertion is also excellent. My blood pressure appears to be good (there was one anomolous high reading, but the manual reading today and two days ago was perfectly fine). My muscular strength and endurance is also very good. My flexibility is.... not. I need to start stretching before and after skating, and stretching more in general. My overall body fat, measured with the calipers, is 23%. That is actually much better than I expected. I have virtually no fat on my legs, what with the skating, it's all just hanging around my gut. The interesting thing I discovered is that if I am targeting 16% body fat, which is a good healthy number, then my target weight winds up only being about 243 pounds. That means I really only have about twenty pounds to go. I could actually be within three months of hitting my goal. That's just... wow. I was thinking I had to get down to more like 220. So basically I am going to keep working my tuchas off, and test my body fat again when I hit the 240's. I could actually be in maintenance mode by Halloween. w00t!
So that's my week so far. I need to go write more code now.
